Card Lifecycle & Purchase Flow

  • PURCHASE WORKFLOW:

1. Agent picks a fund (spend limit) it's scoped to. 2. Ramp mints a fresh PAN + CVV for the purchase. 3. Credential is scoped to one merchant and capped at the purchase amount. 4. Agent fills checkout form with card details. 5. Card auto-expires after first authorization or 12 hours.

  • CARD VARIANTS:

Ramp has four card types: Virtual (16-digit, ongoing), Physical (shipped to employees), Agent (single-use credentials for AI agents), and Embedded Virtual (iframe for browser-side exposure). Agent Cards is one of these four.

  • TROUBLESHOOTING:

Credentials show as regular transactions on the linked fund — no separate Agent Cards dashboard. Pass billing address explicitly in agent prompts (e.g., "billing address 123 Main St, San Francisco, CA 94110"). Paymentus and some bill-payment aggregators have known acceptance issues with single-use credentials.

Transaction Monitoring & Audit

  • ATTRIBUTION:

Every transaction traces back to the agent that initiated it and the human sponsor authorizing it. All agent actions land in Ramp's audit log automatically.

  • REAL-TIME TRACKING:

Subscribe to transactions.cleared webhooks for real-time spend events. Query transactions by agent, fund, merchant, amount, date, or user via MCP tools or API. Export full transaction history with receipts, memos, and GL coding.

  • DASHBOARD:

Credentials show up as regular transactions on the linked fund — no separate Agent Cards page. The audit log entry attributes the transaction to the agent acting on your behalf.

GENERAL QUESTIONS.

Ramp Agent Cards integrate via two channels: the Ramp MCP server (https://mcp.ramp.com/mcp) for conversational assistants — explicitly supporting Claude Desktop, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Cursor, and any MCP-compatible client — and the Ramp CLI for terminal-based coding agents, explicitly supporting Claude Code and Codex (OpenAI). The CLI's agentic-purchase skill drives the full purchase workflow (credential → checkout → audit). Both channels honor the authenticated user's existing Ramp permissions and write every action to the audit log.

Humans control spend through Ramp Funds (Limits API) which define per-agent budgets with restrictions on amount, interval (daily/monthly/total), allowed merchant categories, specific allowed merchants, and permitted countries. Agent Cards draw against these funds — the agent can only generate credentials against funds it's scoped to. Additionally, a customizable human-in-the-loop policy auto-approves routine transactions and escalates high-value purchases for human review. An MCC blocklist of 13 categories (gambling, dating, securities, quasi-cash, etc.) is enforced at the network level. Agent Card issuance is policy-controlled at the business level — higher ceilings require a support ticket.

Ramp Agent Cards are part of the Ramp platform. The Free plan ($0/mo/user) includes unlimited virtual and physical cards with category and vendor controls. No per-card issuance fees, no transaction fees for standard use. The Plus plan ($15/mo/user + platform fee) adds advanced AI-powered controls, custom roles, and audit logs. Enterprise offers custom pricing with local card issuing in 30+ countries. Cashback of 1.5% applies to card purchases on all plans. There is no pre-funding requirement — cards run on credit and settle later.
